Microsoft wants to use Edge to push you to use its Office suite

Microsoft is gradually launching a new feature on its browser with the possibility of activating an “Office” button which allows instant access to its various applications.

Microsoft seems to be in the experimentation phase on its Edge browser. As spotted by a Reddit user named Leopeva64-2, the Redmond firm would have made available, on the latest version of its web browser, a button dedicated to its Office suite. This is not activated by default, but the option is indeed found in the settings.

Thanks to this, the transition between the browser and the tools of the suite should be easier. This new feature can be found in the Canary version of Microsoft Edge, but is disabled by default, which suggests that this is still an experimental option for Microsoft. This is available in the “Appearance” tab of the settings by entering the following command in the search bar: Edge://settings/appearance.

The Office button is then made available just above the Comments button. If this still seems a tad too experimental to you, be aware that access to the Office suite is still available in the menu at the top right. Just go click on the three little dots and go to “Additional Tools” where you should already find a ready-to-use Office button.

Activating this new feature will therefore directly add an Office button to your toolbar. By clicking on it, you will have access to a sidebar that will allow you to access all the services that Microsoft offers such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, OneDrive and OneNote.

Clicking on any of these options will take you to the web version of the app for now, but Microsoft may add new features in the future to allow its browser to compliment its ecosystem even better.

According to this same Reddit user, this feature is being rolled out gradually by Microsoft, which means that not all users will receive it at the same time. If your version is not up to date to support this new feature, we recommend that you at least update to counter this security flaw that affects browsers.
