Microsoft has just announced a major change to the keyboards of future computers, with the installation of a key to directly access Generative AI Copilot.

The American giant continues to show that it is the pioneer in the field of generative AI. After having supported the right partner in the person of OpenAI, which is at the origin of ChatGPT, the Redmond firm is the first to introduce physical changes within the hardware which will run the AIs. The computers of the future will thus benefit from a button to directly launch an AI!

A first in 30 years

It has been 30 years since the keyboards of computers running Windows had been renewed. Because since 1994, and the addition of the famous Windows key (located at the bottom left), nothing had changed. Till today ! Microsoft has just announced that a new key will be installed on new computers produced in 2024 integrating Windows 11, and that this would allow direct access to the Copilot AI assistant.

According to the brief video that was produced by Windows for this announcement, we can see that the key in question will be located directly next to the left directional key on the keyboard. A great way for the firm founded by Bill Gates to launch 2024, which it hopes to be “ the year of AI PCs. »

A Start menu for Europe

We consider this a new transformative moment in our journey with Windows, where Copilot will be the entry point into the world of AI on PC » welcomed executive vice-president Yusuf Mehdi. For the moment, to quickly access Copilot, there is only the Windows+C shortcut.

Note that AI is currently available everywhere on the planet, except in the territory of the European Union, where Microsoft has yet to comply with local requirements on data confidentiality. So, until the agreements are found, this key will only open the Start menu for us. However, if you really want to access Copilot now, there is a procedure that allows you to find it on Windows 10.
