Microsoft will in turn increase the price of its games on Xbox

Will playing the latest fashionable games become a real privilege? Microsoft decides to follow the decision of other publishers and increase the launch prices of major games from 2023. The publisher distributes its triple A games at $60, like the majority of the market, but other publishers have decided to increase the introductory prices. This is for example the case of Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive and the historical competitor of the American firm, Sony. From the beginning of 2023, the new major titles, in particular cut for the Xbox Series X / S, will no longer cost 60, but 70 $, or around 66 € (HT).

The games already announced for next year are then concerned, such as the racing simulation game Forza Motorsportthe FPS action shooter red fallor the new role-playing and exploration game developed by Bethesda Starfield. A decision commented on and justified by a Microsoft spokesperson in an IGN article: “This award reflects the content, breadth and technical complexity of these titles.”

This choice seems in line with the remarks made by Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, two months earlier during the Tech Live event at wall street journal : “We have maintained the price of our console, we have maintained the price of games and our subscription. I don’t think we can do this forever.” Promises kept, since Phil Spencer had also declared that he did not want to increase prices before the Christmas holidays. It remains to be seen whether Microsoft’s consoles, the Xbox Series X and S, will also suffer the same fate. Questioned by IGN on this subject, the American firm made no comment.
