Microsoft is planning a lot for its Xbox ecosystem. Tempting exclusives (which could take another turn with the takeover of Activision-Blizzard), an increasingly extensive Game Pass, or even the appearance of a bundle including an Xbox Series X and Forza Horizon 5. What we know less, as players, is that the American company also has in mind some advances in terms of ecology.
An update to reduce its carbon footprint?
The subject is fascinating, as long as one is actively interested in the subject of global warming, and more generally of ecology: Microsoft seems keen to drastically reduce its carbon footprint, and its consequences on the planet. What should go through fully recyclable production by 2030, the manufacturer having recently committed to it. But that’s not all !
We can learn on the Xbox Wire site that the American company is not going to stop there, and that an update is currently in the test phase, allowing drastically reduce the power consumption of Xbox consoles. Only members of the Xbox Insiders program are affected at this time, but if all goes well, this should affect all Xbox owners in the near future.
More concretely, what would this update do? Well it’s quite simple, actually: she would propose a “stop” mode that would no longer simply put your machine on standby ; it would allow you to configure the installation and downloading of updates on the ” maintenance night slot“, with the aim of emitting less CO2 by using, as far as possible, renewable energy sources.
Very nice promises that we will not see landing on our consoles at the same time as the members of the Xbox Insiders program. They can indeed try these features since yesterday.
