After a somewhat timid Xbox One generation, Microsoft seems to put the package on the generation Xbox Series, with its Xbox Game Pass stronger than ever. This strategy seems to be working for the American giant, which has just unveiled its financial results for 2021, which are mostly on the rise with clear year-over-year increases.
A year that makes Phil Spencer and his teams smile
Microsoft’s Gaming division (Xbox) reported revenue of $16.28 billion for the 2021 calendar year:
– Best calendar year on record, beating previous high of 2020
– Total gaming revenue up 17.7% YoY
– Content & Services revenue up 8.8% YoY
– Hardware revenue up 63.3% YoY pic.twitter.com/84MkOsnMkG— Daniel Ahmad (@ZhugeEX) January 25, 2022
It was analyst Daniel Ahmad who was able to relay all the information concerning the revenues of the Xbox division, and he shows that Xbox is having its best year, despite a year 2020 which was already on the rise. The estimated overall revenues for 2021 at Xbox would thus reach $16.28 billion.
We then note an increase of 8.8% compared to the previous year in the revenues generated by the services, including the Xbox Game Pass, which reached the bar of 25 million subscribers.
The hardware part, which concerns consoles, increased by 63.3%, strongly helped by the more regular sale of the Xbox Series S. Thus, the Xbox Series (S and X) would have sold more than 12 million copies since its launch.
The last quarter of the year was particularly profitable for the brand, in particular thanks to the record commitment around Halo Infinite, which signed the best start of the series with 20 million players. Forza Horizon 5 is also to be welcomed, since it has registered 18 million pilots since its launch.
A good year for the manufacturer, which can count on the strength of its Game Pass. Knowing that Activision-Blizzard arrives in the balance, alongside very big games in the years to come, there is no doubt that the Xbox division should continue on its good momentum.
