On August 21, Midjourney announced the launch of its web version to all users. This decision responds to a recurring request from the community, frustrated by the obligation to use Discord since the debut of AI in 2022.

Midjourney: a website and free trials

Alongside this progress, Midjourney is temporarily relaunching free trials, which had been suspended for over a year. In March 2023, David Holz, the platform’s founder and CEO, justified this suspension by high demand and observed abuses. From now on, new users can generate a limited number of images, around five, before upgrading to a paid subscription to continue.

To access these features, a login via a Google or Discord account is required. Subscriptions range in price from $8 to $96.

It is important to note that Midjourney has not specified the duration of this free trial period. An uncertainty that leaves doubts about the sustainability of the offer: it will therefore be necessary to take advantage of it quickly.

Midjourney’s strategy comes in a context of increased competition in the AI image generator market between the many proposals on the market such as DALL-E or Firefly 3. By facilitating access to its service and offering free trials again, the platform is (probably) looking to expand its user base and stand out from its competitors.
