Midjourney v5.2: do you like an image? It becomes possible to add a decoration

Midjourney v5.2 launches a zoom out to invent a setting around an image. By modifying the prompt on the way, it is also possible to change the mood of the scene.

Another leap forward for Midjourney. The generative artificial intelligence specialized in creating visuals on the fly has just received a big update, on June 22, a month and a half after the release of Midjourney v5.1. Changes coming with Midjourney v5.2 include a zoom out option that extends the scenery of a scene around its creation.

This version arrives upstream of Midjourney v6, expected for this summer.

This function, called “zoom out”, is used to ask Midjourney to generate more environment around. You type your prompt, you choose an image among the four (or, you start again, changing your instruction or choosing a variation). Once you have an image that suits you, the options appear.

Here is an example, inspired by the speedy from AI consultant Alie Jules. With this statement ” closeup shot of an alien princess, green slime:: hyper realistic », the tool first proposed the image on the left — This is the one we chose among the four generated by Midjourney. We asked for “zoom out x2”. Of the four other images, we chose one: the one on the right.

By default, Midjourney displays two zoom out options: 1.5x zoom out and 2x zoom out. It is also possible to choose a custom zoom with the “custom zoom” button. Finally, there is a vignette function to pass the image in a square dimension. This will relaunch four visuals, with the same height and width.

Reinvent the decor with the zoom out.

There is a trick to orient Midjourney in the creation of the decor: this is what notes for example cakedroid on Twitter. The trick is to choose the “zoom out” button to redisplay the prompt in a dialog box. At this time, you can modify the text — adding to it or removing elements. It is then up to you whether or not to move the zoom parameter.

For example, we took our prompt and added “sitting in the car, driving” for the very first frame. By restarting the x2 zoom, the option allows you to change the atmosphere around the character. The variations will depend on your prompt, what you add, and whether you go for the strong or weak variation options to render more or less believable.
