BARCELONA (Reuters) – A group of 28 people fled the tarmac at Barcelona’s El Prat airport on Wednesday after an airliner from Casablanca to Istanbul made an emergency landing, the Spanish government said.

Fourteen of them were arrested by the police, including a pregnant woman who claimed to have lost her water, which triggered the landing procedure. The fourteen other people were not immediately found.

Five of those arrested were taken back on board the plane of the Turkish company Pegasus Airlines while eight others will be deported to Morocco. The pregnant woman, examined at the hospital, was not about to give birth, the government added.

The aircraft was carrying a total of 228 passengers.

In October 2021, a group of passengers had fled in the same way, after an emergency landing for an erroneous reason, on the island of Majorca. Twelve people had fled, twelve others had been arrested.
