Tennis stars mourn reporter who died unexpectedly


Reporter Mike Dickson dies unexpectedly at the age of 59.

The tennis world mourns Mike Dickson. The sports reporter’s family said Dickson died unexpectedly in Australia at the age of 59. The long-time tennis correspondent for the British Daily Mail had previously traveled to Melbourne to report on the Australian Open.

Mike Dickson “lived his dream”

“We are devastated to report that our wonderful husband and father, Mike, collapsed and died while in Melbourne for the Australian Open,” one said X-Post (formerly Twitter) on behalf of the family. “For 38 years he lived his dream, covering sport around the world. He was a truly great man and we will miss him terribly.” The post is signed by his wife Lucy and his children Sam, Ruby and Joe.

Also the “Daily Mail”, where Dickson worked for more than 30 years, confirmed the sad news. Just a few hours before his death, Dickson had, among other things, reported on Emma Raducanu’s (21) match for the tabloid and conducted his last interview with the young British woman.

“Terrible news from Melbourne”

Several big personalities in the tennis world took to social media to express their condolences to the family of the deceased. “Terrible news from Melbourne! My sincere condolences to the family of Mike Dickson who passed away this morning… Rest in peace Mike,” wrote the German tennis legend Boris Becker (56) at X.

“I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Mike, who followed the sport of tennis over the years,” shared Rafael Nadal (37) with. The tennis professional’s thoughts are with Dickson’s family “and with our tennis family because of the loss.” Nadal’s colleague Novak Djokovic (36) wrote briefly: “Heartfelt condolences to the family of Mike Dickson. Rest in peace”.

Also on the official one The ATP Tour account has been communicatedthat it was “with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Mike Dickson.” His “love for the game and his presence on the tour” will be greatly missed. The reporter was a “long-time member of the tennis family”. The women’s tennis association WTA was “deeply saddened by Mike’s sudden passing.” He was “highly respected on the tour by players, coaches, staff and everyone involved in tennis.”

Last but not least it was said from the Australian Open X account: “We are shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Mike, our long-time colleague and friend. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family.”
