Mike Tyson in Very Bad Trip: why he has no memory of the shooting

In 2009, Mike Tyson played a small role in the first Very Bad Trip. Except that the boxer has no memory of the shooting since he was under the influence of narcotics.

For Mike Tyson, the shooting of Very Bad Trip will forever remain an enigma. The boxer appeared in the legendary comedy, released in 2009, where he had to knock out Zach Galifianakis’ character, Alan, in order to take back his pet tiger. Except that the former sportsman has no memory of the shooting. The reason ? He was, at the time, addicted to drugs and participated in it when he was “destroyed”. Mike Tyson even discovered his role in the cinema by chance when he met the stars of the film in a club. “They were in the VIP section and I said, ‘this is where I normally sit, nobody is normally here’, he told journalist Tony Robbins. It was Zach and he said, ‘we’re going to be in a movie with you’ and I said, ‘oh yeah? When ?'”

“I had no idea, since I was drinking and using drugs at the time, taking drugs prevented me from remembering that I was involved in the film”, added Mike Tyson. Already in 2012, he explained that at that time, he used cocaine every day, including during his filming. “I was a mess. I was overweight. I was a pig, high on cocaine”he confided, explaining that he accepted this role precisely to finance his drug use. Despite this complicated period, Mike Tyson then shot in the sequel, Very Bad Trip II, in 2011. This was not the case for two other actors. First Mel Gibson, approached to embody the role of the tattoo artist from Bangkok.

Very Bad Trip: why Liam Neeson gave up his role

However, the other actors being reluctant to work with him. “I thought Mel was perfect for the movie. But I realized that making a movie is a team effort, and that decision didn’t have the full support of my cast and collaborators,” said director Todd Phillips about it. Liam Neeson, who therefore replaced him, was cut during the editing. The sequence in which the character played by the actor appeared had to be shot again due to a sequence problem. Liam Neeson not being available to shoot his scene again, his cameo was deleted. In the end, the sequence was indeed shot again, but it was actor-director Nick Cassavetes who played this character.
