Israel: Killed journalist was in combat zone

Shortly after the Hamas massacre in Israel, a group of journalists came under fire – a video reporter was killed. Research later revealed that Israeli bullets were responsible for his death. The Israeli Defense Forces are trying to explain the incident.

According to the Israeli military, the shelling of a group of journalists in southern Lebanon occurred in a combat zone. The October 13 incident is being investigated, the Israeli military said. Fighters from the Lebanese Hezbollah militia attacked at that time. Israeli troops opened fire to prevent Hezbollah fighters from entering Israel.

The Reuters news agency had previously published the results of its investigation into the death of Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah. According to them, the video reporter was killed by an Israeli tank bullet in southern Lebanon on October 13th. The research also revealed that an Israeli tank crew fired twice in quick succession. The projectiles exploded near a group of journalists 37 seconds apart.

Human rights organizations speak of a possible war crime and demand that Israel investigate. Six other journalists were injured, some seriously. The Israeli government then declared that it would not target civilians.

All reporters wore blue body armor and helmets, and most had “PRESS” written on them in white letters, Reuters reported. They came under fire just over a kilometer from the Israeli border, near the Lebanese village of Alma al-Shaab. Journalists from at least seven other media outlets were also working nearby. The reporters wanted to report on the armed clashes in the border area that occurred after the radical Islamic Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th.
