Military truck breaks through a railing on the Susten Pass and falls 220 meters – both occupants dead

wej. On Saturday afternoon there was a fatal accident at the Susten Pass in the canton of Uri. According to a police report, the driver of a military truck was driving on Sustenstrasse in the direction of Wassen when he steered the vehicle too close to the railing and broke it. The truck fell about 220 meters into the steeply sloping terrain. As reported by the canton police of Uri, the truck rolled over several times. The occupants, two men aged 51 and 57, were thrown from the vehicle. They died at the scene of the accident.

According to the media release, the military vehicle was used as part of an “off-duty activity”. The exact course of the accident is the subject of the ongoing investigations, which are being carried out by the Uri canton police under the direction of the Uri public prosecutor’s office.

Rega, the Uri Care Team, the Wassen fire brigade, the Uri chemical defence, an undertaker, the Office for Environmental Protection, the Office for Civil Engineering, as well as the Uri public prosecutor and the Uri cantonal police were on duty.
