Millions already have the digital vaccination certificate – one group still gets nothing

Consumers can now have a digital vaccination certificate issued in several thousand pharmacies. Seniors in particular apparently take up the offer in pharmacies.

If you want to save yourself the trip to the pharmacy, you can also create the digital vaccination certificate with your own smartphone. For this, those affected only have to download the CovPass app or the Corona warning app, install it on their smartphone and scan the QR code on the vaccination sheet or the vaccination certificate with the camera active.

If the code does not work, the vaccinated must go to the pharmacy.

Recovery certificates only from the end of June

While those who have been vaccinated can already use the digital vaccination pass, millions of Germans are still left with nothing. Recovered people who have only received a vaccination and are considered fully vaccinated cannot yet use the service. The app and the pharmacies are not yet able to store proof of a positive PCR test and vaccination in the system.

“We can’t and shouldn’t do that at the moment,” says a pharmacist in Munich. “We have received instructions, but the system will not be activated until later.” The main problem is that PCR tests are in circulation in different formats. The pharmacies would have to check each document individually.

The Federal Ministry of Health has now confirmed what FOCUS Online had reported: The function will be added to the next stage of development. The system for issuing certificates at pharmacies, vaccination centers and medical practices will then also include those who have recovered.

Vaccination pass app update is imminent

The new vaccination pass app is actually a certificate app. With the program, people who have been tested, vaccinated and recovered should be able to digitize their evidence by July 1 at the latest. The app is intended to be used as evidence of relaxed corona restrictions and to facilitate travel in Europe during the summer vacation time.

Within the EU, travelers, commuters and citizens are no longer differentiated between those who have been vaccinated and those who have been tested. Both groups of people have the same rights when traveling, for example. Germany had the “CovPass“App published at the beginning of June. For a few days now, it has been possible to scan the QR codes from the vaccination sheets (or vaccination confirmations) and convert them into a digital certificate.

Tests and evidence of recovery (positive PCR test) should also be stored in the app by the end of June. To this end, the EU countries have come to an agreement in order to uniformly introduce existing easing for travel.

An update of the CovPass app and the Corona warning app is required in order to maintain the function. Both updates should be available from Google’s iOS store and Playstore before the end of June.

How should convalescents travel without a digital vaccination certificate?

Until the CovPass app can also store PCR or quarantine evidence, those who have recovered can present their printed documents at the airport. The positive PCR test, for example, serves as proof.

However, airlines had already warned that these individual checks are associated with considerable waiting times. If the digital solution is still a long way off, travelers would have to expect waiting times of up to four hours.
