Boris Johnson announces memoirs

Boris Johnson will step down as British Prime Minister in September 2022, and since then the Tory politician has been quiet. Johnson surprises with the announcement of his life story – above all because he owes a publisher a biography of Shakespeare.

British ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson is writing his biography amid speculation about a comeback to Downing Street. This was announced by the publisher Harper Collins. A release date was not initially mentioned. Publishing director Arabella Pike said: “I look forward to working with Boris Johnson as he writes his account of his tenure during some of the most momentous events that Britain has witnessed in recent times.”

Johnson resigned from his own party in September 2022 after intense pressure. He recently earned a lot of money as a speaker and also received a large donation. This fueled speculation that he might try to overthrow incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The book deal should bring him more income. The fee has not yet been published. However, Johnson’s predecessors had received large sums for their memoirs: Tony Blair is said to have received up to five million pounds (currently around 5.64 million euros), David Cameron 1.5 million pounds.

Former journalist Johnson has published several books, including a 2014 biography of his historical role model Winston Churchill.

Johnson had long been working on a biography of playwright William Shakespeare. Meanwhile, the rival publisher is still waiting for the work-up promised by Johnson. After reportedly collecting a hefty upfront payment for the book in 2015, the politician has already missed several deadlines.
