Even if Corona no longer seems to be a big issue at the moment: In the coming weeks and months, more and more vaccination certificates will expire. We explain what you have to do.
Users whose last vaccination was almost a year ago currently receive a warning in the CovPass or Corona-Warn app that their Corona vaccination certificate is no longer valid
Do you have to be vaccinated against Corona again?
A new corona vaccination after the third booster vaccination is not necessary for the time being. Rather, the app warns that the technical validity of the vaccination certificate expires after one year.
Corona warning app allows extension of vaccination certificates
In the new version 2.23, the Corona-Warn-App automatically informs users before their recovery and vaccination certificates expire. You then have up to 90 days after the technical expiry date to renew the certificate by tapping the “Renew Certificate” notice in the Certificates section of the app.
After they have given their consent, the certificate will be automatically replaced. The technically expired certificate is moved to the recycle bin.
Version 2.23 of the Corona-Warn-App will be gradually rolled out to all users over a period of 48 hours. iOS users can now download the current app version manually from the Apple store. The new version of the Corona-Warn-App will be available in the Google Play Store within the next 48 hours.
What features can we still expect from the Corona-Warn-App in the future?
There is no official roadmap from the developers, but suggestions and requests for future versions can be viewed on the GitHub developer platform. There are a few very interesting things there, such as a reminder of upcoming vaccinations or protection against misuse when scanning certificates.
CovPass App: Waiting for next update
Unlike the Corona warning app, the CovPass app is not that far along yet. According to the RKI, a new issue should be possible “soon” in a few steps in the CovPass app. An exact date is not yet known.
The RKI also writes on the website that an app update will be available before the certificates expire, which will enable them to be reissued. Affected users do not have to do anything for now.
