“I’m still addicted. I haven’t overcome my alcohol addiction,” says Mimi Fiedler, 48, right at the beginning of the current episode of the podcast “That’s just how I am.” She corrects podcast host Lukas Klaschinski because it is important to her to emphasize that although she is no longer sick, she is still an alcoholic. She wants to put an end to the fact that at some point you can completely give up alcohol addiction. The former “Tatort” actress knows best that addiction can always catch up with you.

Mimi Fiedler almost relapsed

She has been sober for six years now, and yet it is always there: the temptation. In May last year, Mimi was almost caught up, she says in an interview with Stephanie Stahl, 60, and Lukas Klaschinski. She was sitting at her book, studying old notes – and suddenly the desire came back. “It was like a club hitting me from behind,” Mimi remembers the moment when she almost reached for the glass again. Everything was back, all the memories, the addictive memory had almost outsmarted her: “The urge to drink was simply there again, like an uninvited guest.” She was able to save herself from herself with foster daughter Anna, “she always had a good feeling for me,” reports the actress. Anna called her constantly on her cell phone and was able to stop her from turning to alcohol again.

The 48-year-old has been sober for almost six years now. An absolute miracle, as she says proudly and a little humbly in the podcast. She still can hardly believe what she has achieved. “I did something really great,” she explains.

Never acting again

For many years, Mimi Fiedler used acting not only as an escape from herself, but also as a way to get drunk. The anonymity of hotel rooms gave her the perfect opportunity to do this. For 25 years she did exactly that – “after filming ended, she went to the gas station to buy alcohol and get drunk.” When she got sober, she realized that she didn’t want to play anymore – neither personally nor professionally. The episode is over for her.
