Mindcraft, the first Minecraft map that can detect dyslexia

Yesterday, on the occasion of National Dys Day, a brand new map arrived on the game Minecraft. Title Mindcraftis intended to be a playful experience that would make it possible to detect the signs of dyslexia, but also to make the players understand these signs of disorders.

In France, it is estimated that 6 to 8% of the population is affected by cognitive disorders such as dyslexia, dysphasia or even dyspraxia. And yet, for lack of a diagnosis established in childhood or adolescence, many adults are affected by one of these disorders, without being aware of it.

Thus, to help identify the symptoms and support people affected by dyslexia, the association Pouvoir Dys and the BETC agency have joined forces for a major project, Mindcraft. Project which therefore takes place in Minecraft which, according to several studies, is the perfect field of experimentation. Indeed, nearly 38% of players are affected by dyslexia and many of them are completely unaware of it.

In Mindcraft, players can discover a map specially designed in collaboration with neuropsychologist Béatrice Sauvageot but also with the help of dyslexics. Divided into four zones, the labyrinthine map symbolizes the complexity of the brain of a dyslexic with complications. In the skin of the character Charlie, it is then necessary to take up the challenges throughout the map to manage to find its way in the labyrinth.

A fun way to identify players with dyslexia but also to educate the general public about these often poorly understood disorders. The goal here is to know how to spot the signs in loved ones, but also to get into the head of a dyslexic to better understand their disorders.
