To appease people’s minds about the current situation, Microsoft and the Nobel Peace Center are launching “Active Citizen”, a new game integrated into Minecraft Education to raise awareness and educate players about citizen behavior.

A new adventure awaits Minecraft players in the world they have created for themselves. After making a gesture for the planet and learning the right gestures of security on the internet, Mojang Studios, the creator of the game, wants game aficionados to live there in peace. This is why, in collaboration with the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo and the association Games for Change, they have together created a new experience based on civic engagement.
More than ever, Minecraft therefore wants to be a fertile ground for teaching very real values. Active Citizen will thus integrate Minecraft: Educational Edition with a very specific goal: to make players aware of how to obtain peace in their world through actions, large or small.
An experience based on reality
Obviously, the world situation is probably not unrelated to the establishment of such an experience where we can meet former Nobel Peace Prize winners such as the Dalai Lama, Malala Yousafzai, Wangari Maathai and Fridtjof Nansen .

Active Citizen begins, moreover, in Minecraft, in the Nobel Center in Oslo where Alfred Nobel welcomes the players before meeting the other winners of the prestigious prize and helping them overcome challenges to achieve peace. Because the goal is to help players understand the mechanisms of democracy in order to develop skills and create their own vision of peace in the game.
A game, an experience and an online site

A way to make the link between a behavior in reality, but also in the game or online where concerns are too often encountered by players facing other virtual individuals. This is probably also why the Nobel Center is getting involved in video games for the very first time, with a project that will have repercussions in the 112 countries using Minecraft Education Edition in schools.

Because at the end of the experience integrated into Minecraft, the players will have to build their own representation of an active citizenship for peace. The best performances will be exhibited in the online Nobel Center.
The game is also intended as an educational support for teachers and resources will be made available on the web for use in the classroom with discussion guides for pupils aged 8 to 16 as well as lesson plans.
