Children's dream fulfilled: 13-year-old builds his own mini-house

With a lot of skill and organizational talent, 13-year-old Luke became a homeowner at an early age

For an unbelievable $ 1,500, 13-year-old Luke fulfilled his dream of owning his own house – all by himself.

There are children who build a cozy "cave" at home out of sheets and pillows. Some are very lucky that they can build a real tree house in the garden together with mom and dad. But the then 13-year-old Luke Thill from Iowa put the crown on the whole of 2019: He actually built a complete mini house all by himself – and spent no more than $ 1,500 on it.

"You earn the money and build it – then it's yours"

The first question, of course, is: How does an eighth grader get that much money? Thill is not the child of a wealthy family, but has earned the capital himself. His parents only announced that he would have to take care of the finances and the construction himself – but that he would really be allowed to keep his own home. Inspired by the deal, Luke saved an eternity on the money he made mowing the lawn and doing other small jobs in the neighborhood. He also gets part of the sum through a small crowdfunding campaign.

Built alone – with a little help

Admittedly, Luke didn't build the house on his own – he got guidance and support from his father. In some cases, Luke also managed to negotiate very skillfully: For example, one of his neighbors is an electrician and connected the mini-house to the power grid. In return, Luke cleared out his garage. Another craftsman laid carpet in exchange for mowing the lawn.

Paradise on eight square meters

The result is really impressive: on just under eight square meters, Luke has almost everything he needs for life over two floors: a seating area with TV and table, a kitchenette and a small bedroom with one mattress. He only has to do without running water and still uses the bathroom in his parents' house. But Luke already has plans for a new, mobile house in which he would like to live later as a student. In any case, his parents are already proud of him – and all the children who see the house are guaranteed to be incredibly jealous.
