“Mini-internships” in companies offered to 5th graders

L5th grade secondary school students will be able to discover the business world from the start of the next school year. On the instructions of the National Education, the establishments and the academies will offer voluntary students “activities for the discovery of professions”, through “mini-internships” or “company visits”, details the circular for the start of the 2022 school year. This text, each year, compiles the old or new measures of the educational policy, addressed to all the staff of the National Education.

This provision implements one of the promises of candidate Macron which had been the subject of controversy during the campaign, Jean-Luc Mélenchon accusing the president-candidate of wanting to extend learning from the age of 12.

“The issues of equality also concern the discovery of the world of work, while the most informed students are those who will often pursue the longest studies and will have the best conditions to gradually build their career”, explains the Minister of National Education, Pap Ndiaye, in the circular. “The promotion of equality between girls and boys and the prevention of social or gender stereotypes will be at the heart of these approaches”, completes the ministerial text.

More sports at school

As of the start of the new school year, “colleges will experiment, in conjunction with the academic authorities, with new pedagogical organizations in sixth grade to better support the transition between school and college, (…) Priority will be given to colleges whose results in the national assessments reveal specific difficulties”, adds this circular.

Another promise of candidate Macron translated into instructions in the back-to-school circular: sport at school. “Thirty minutes of daily physical activity will be generalized from the start of the school year in all schools in France. “Volunteering colleges will be invited to set up, on an experimental basis, an organization of timetables allowing all or part of their students to do two hours of sports activities during extracurricular time, in sports clubs or associations” , indicates the circular.

Finally, the ongoing transformation of the vocational high school “will be continued”. In all vocational high schools, “specific actions allowing easier access to employment will be deployed, in the continuity of the integration modules for the final year classes”, assures the text.
