As if to prepare for the start of the school year, MSI unveils its new range of laptops Prestige with Mini-LED and processor Alder Lake-P to the key.
Available in two models, Prestige 16 and Prestige 16 EVO, this series is primarily aimed at professionals looking for performance and productivity.
A prestigious technical sheet?
The main development of this new MSI series is the presence of a 16″ panel with a 16:10 ratio on both models. But the most notable development is on the Prestige 16 side, which has a screen Mini-LED QHD+ (2,560 x 1,600), compared to an LCD FHD+ (1,920 x 1,200) for the Prestige 16 EVO. Thus, the Prestige 16 screen enjoys a certain advantage in terms of quality. image, including HDR 1000 support. However, the two models have in common a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz.
Even more so for the Prestige 16 than for the Prestige 16 EVO, a solid technical sheet is required for performance to be achieved. Under the hood, the differences between the two models are indeed notable, the Prestige 16 carrying an NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti graphics card against an Intel Iris X Graphics for the Prestige 16 EVO. Otherwise, both models benefit from an Alder Lake-P processor, which can go up to the Intel Core i7-1280P with 6 p-cores and 8 e-cores and 20 threads.
In terms of RAM and storage, both models can have up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM in dual-channel, as well as an M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD, the capacity of which, however, has not been specified. Note that both models will be offered with a choice of a family or professional version of Windows 11 installed natively.
Solid connectivity… but no price or release date
For the rest, the two models are perfectly identical, including including good equipment for a better videoconferencing experience. The new Prestige range can indeed count on a 30fps @1080p webcam with noise reduction and shutter, two 2W speakers certified DTS and Hi Res Audio Ready and a quadruple microphone.
On the connector side, there are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, an HDMI port and an SD card reader on both models. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 are of course also supported. Both models also have a fingerprint reader, a white backlit keyboard and an Ambient Light sensor.
All this is powered by a 4-cell Li-Polymer battery of 100W for the Prestige 16 and 65W for the Prestige 16 EVO, which is less power hungry due to its less energy-consuming screen and graphics card. Both models have a sleek and compact design in “urban silver” color, weighing 1.9 kg with dimensions of 35.8 x 25.8 x 1.6 cm.
If we know the new Prestige range by MSI in its smallest recesses, there are still two unknowns of size: the price of the models according to the options, and their availability. The dragon mark has unfortunately not yet expressed itself on these two points.
