Minimum alimony increased by 50% “from November”

The 50% increase in the minimum alimony, promised by Emmanuel Macron to support single mothers, will take place “from November”according the roadmap of the ministry of solidarity broadcast after the government seminar, Wednesday 31 August.

The candidate president had pledged in the spring to “supporting the income of single-parent families, by increasing the amount of minimum child support by 50%”from 116 to 174 euros per child per month.

It will be done “from November 2022”assures the government, in a document detailing the “major projects” of each ministry, including that of solidarity. This amount corresponds to the minimum amount paid by the Family Allowance Fund, either to supplement small pensions, or in the event of non-payment by the debtor parent.

During the presidential campaign, the Institut Montaigne had estimated the cost of this measure at 900 million euros per year, on the basis of an expenditure of 1.8 billion in 2020 for more than 800,000 beneficiaries.
