Minister called “scum”: Kim Jong Un’s sister squabbles against South Korea

Minister called “scum”.
Kim Jong Un’s sister scolds South Korea

South Korea’s reaction to the renewed North Korean missile tests sees the sister of ruler Kim Jong Un as a provocation. She berated the defense minister as “scum” and warned the neighboring country of a “serious threat”.

The tone between South and North Korea is sharpening again. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s influential sister, Kim Yo Jong, attacked South Korea’s Defense Minister Suh Wook for his remarks on his country’s attack capabilities against North Korea. Kim was quoted as saying by the state media that Suh was a “senseless and scumbag-like guy”. The senior official of the ruling Workers’ Party accused Suh of making reckless statements about a “pre-emptive strike” and thus increasing tensions on the Korean peninsula. She also threatened that South Korea was therefore risking a “serious threat”. She didn’t elaborate further.

Suh publicly said on Friday that South Korea’s armed forces have the capability to “precisely and quickly” attack the origin of North Korean missile launches and its command posts as soon as there are clear signs of an attack against South Korea.

Verbal attacks by North Korea against members of the South Korean government are not uncommon. Kim’s statement comes at a time when tensions in the region are rising again. North Korea had recently alarmed its neighboring countries with the new test of a nuclear-capable ICBM. UN resolutions ban the largely isolated country from testing any type of missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. North Korea’s long-range missiles are also seen as a major threat by the United States.

In a separate statement, Labor Party Central Committee secretary Pak Jong Chon said North Korea’s army would “mercilessly direct all its military might towards the destruction of key targets in Seoul and the South Korean army” should it carry out a pre-emptive strike or other dangerous actions .
