In Berlin, the 2G rule applies from Monday

After Saxony, Berlin is also reacting to the drastically increasing number of corona infections. So far, the 2G rule was an option for restaurants and event organizers in the capital. Now the Senate has decided to expand the regulation extensively.

The Berlin Senate has decided on further restrictions for people without corona vaccination protection. The so-called 2G rule is to be expanded significantly after a decision, as the Senate Chancellery announced. In view of the increased number of corona cases and emerging bottlenecks in the intensive care units, from Monday only vaccinated and convalescent (2G) people should have access to restaurants, cinemas, theaters, museums or galleries, for example, while those who have been tested will no longer have access.

This also applies to leisure facilities such as saunas and thermal baths as well as amusement facilities such as amusement arcades, closed rooms in amusement parks or in the Berlin zoo as well as in the zoo. The new regulation does not apply to people who have not yet reached the age of 18. A proven negative corona test is still sufficient for them.

Currently in Berlin, restaurant operators or event organizers, for example, can decide for themselves whether they allow access to their interiors for vaccinated, convalescent and tested people (3G) or only for vaccinated and convalescent people. With 2G there is no mask requirement. In contrast, 2G has already been prescribed for clubs and other providers of dance events.

Hotspots rely on the 3G plus rule

With the tightening of the corona measures, the Senate is reacting to the significantly increased number of infections in Germany and Berlin. According to the data from the Robert Koch Institute on Wednesday morning, the seven-day incidence in the capital is 227.8. The value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have tested positive for the coronavirus within the past seven days. At the beginning of October it was still 74.4.

The 2G regulation has been in effect in Saxony since this week. Other federal states such as Bavaria and Thuringia, on the other hand, rely on the 3G plus rule. According to this, unvaccinated people have to show a PCR test, a rapid test is then no longer sufficient.
