She became known thanks to "Babylon 5" and "Lost". Now the Croatian-American actress Mira Furlan has died at the age of 65.

The Croatian-American actress Mira Furlan has died at the age of 65. As announced on their official Twitter account, she died on January 20, 2021. Further details were not officially released. The Croatian daily "Vecernji list" reports, however, citing the family of the dead, that Furlan succumbed to the consequences of an infection with the dangerous West Nile virus.

According to this, she was bitten by an infected mosquito and had been struggling with the most severe symptoms for months. Despite the best care in a US hospital, she ultimately succumbed to the insidious disease.

She moved to the United States in the early 1990s

The "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski (66) spoke in a short Twitter statement of the loss of a good and friendly woman and a stunningly talented actress. The whole crew was devastated: "It is a night of great sadness, because our friend and comrade has gone the way on which we cannot reach them."

Mila Furlan was born in Zagreb in what was then Yugoslavia in 1955, but emigrated to the USA with her husband in the early 1990s. She became famous for her portrayal of Ambassador Delenn in 110 episodes of the science fiction series "Babylon 5" from 1994 to 1998. She also played the role of Danielle Rousseau in the acclaimed ABC series "Lost".
