Miroslav Klose is the new coach of second division football club 1. FC Nuremberg. The 2014 world champion succeeds Cristian Fiél, who is moving to league rivals Hertha BSC.
World Cup record goalscorer Miroslav Klose will be the new coach of second division football club 1. FC Nuremberg. The 2014 world champion was coach of SCR Altach in Austria until just over a year ago and now wants to make a name for himself as a coach in Germany. “The values that the club stands for immediately impressed me. I’m really happy,” said the 46-year-old. He signed a two-year contract.
“Miro is an extremely meticulous and detail-obsessed coach who has not only experienced and learned a lot during his successful playing career, but has also developed a clear idea as a coach of how to be successful in football and what it takes to do so on the pitch and in the dressing room,” said the new sports director Joti Chatzialexiou. “We have a lot planned.” The signing of Klose should help with the transfers.
Klose will succeed Cristian Fiél. The long-time national player Klose gained coaching experience with the U17 team of FC Bayern Munich and as assistant coach of the professionals, and also worked with the DFB. After his time at Bayern, he went to Austria. At Altach, however, he had only moderate success and had to leave after nine months.
“I didn’t have to think long about it,” said Klose about the “Club” offer. “The club has a great foundation with its youth work, which we want to build on. I have known and appreciated Joti for many years. We are on the same wavelength as people and in the way we think about football. Now it’s time to get going, get to work and get the season on the right track,” said Klose. Chatzialexiou was in a management position at the German Football Association for a long time.
At Chatzialexiou’s presentation a week ago, he announced that Fiél wanted to leave the club early. He is looking for a new challenge at Hertha BSC. “Teams like St. Pauli, Leverkusen, Stuttgart, who are all successful with a similar style of play – that is the direction for the future,” said Chatzialexiou last week. Chatzialexiou envisions “a good axis with two or three leading players.” New talent should grow around them. That is now Klose’s task. 1. FC Nuremberg finished last season in the second division in twelfth place. In the DFB Cup, the team was eliminated in the round of 16 by eventual finalists 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
