(Boursier.com) — Mirova, a subsidiary of Natixis Investment Managers dedicated to sustainable investment, has signed an agreement for the acquisition of a portfolio of “ready-to-build” hybrid assets consisting of two photovoltaic parks ( PV) solar with a total capacity of almost 60 MWp, with potential additional storage capacity of up to 30 MW/120 MWh. The assets, located in the municipality of Mahon on the island of Menorca, Spain, were developed by Qualitas Energy and Q-Impact.

The project consists of three “ready-to-build” solar photovoltaic power plants and its construction is expected to start in mid-2024 with a commissioning date planned for early 2026. Annual production is estimated at approximately 92,000 MWh, or approximately 20% of the annual electricity demand on the island of Menorca.
Specifically, the Mahon PV plant will have an installed capacity of around 60 MWp, which would make it the largest solar power plant in the Balearic Islands once completed.

Through this transaction with the Mirova Energy Transition 5 (MET5) fund, Mirova continues to finance proven technologies necessary for clean energy infrastructure essential to the decarbonization of energy production, storage and consumption in Europe .

Hélène Dimitracopoulos, Investment Director at Mirova, comments: “These renewable energy assets are expected to drive impactful change and help shape a resilient, greener future in the Balearic Islands. We are excited about this opportunity to strengthen our presence in Spain, relying on the solid experience and anchoring of Qualitas Energy and Q-Impact in Menorca”.

Pablo Valencia, Managing Partner at Q-Impact, adds: “The development of these projects highlights the importance of public and private collaboration in order to guarantee the investments necessary to promote the energy transition. Q-Impact and Qualitas Energy are working on these projects since 2019, developing them with the greatest respect for social and environmental factors. The scale of these projects will launch a real energy transition in Menorca, considerably limiting current emissions and pollution from the Mahon thermal power station.
