Missed WhatsApp call? Better not to call these numbers back

WHATSAPP

WhatsApp shows you a series of missed calls? Then be careful. Because you shouldn’t call back certain numbers, otherwise it could get uncomfortable.

Also on WhatsApp you should not blindly call back unknown numbers. (Source: netzwelt)

Apparently a new wave of spam is currently running on WhatsApp. As part of this, you will be bombarded with calls from unknown numbers in Messenger. These usually have the country codes +60 (Malaysia), +62 (Indonesia) and +212 (Morocco). Apparently, this is a new form of fraud attempts.

Because the callers use the already known ping call technique. They ring you briefly, then hang up immediately, trying to get you to call you back. The unknown callers try to get in touch with you on WhatsApp both by voice call and video call. What goals they are pursuing exactly and how they are trying to trick you is currently still unclear.

At the moment, the spam wave is still primarily focused on users in India, as a Reddit thread from affected people shows. As a rule, however, spam and fraud attempts quickly spill over into other countries – an example of this is the grandchild trick on WhatsApp. We advise you not to call back unknown numbers. Regardless of whether they contact you via WhatsApp or another messenger.
