The dialogues, the names of the characters, the music… Are you sure you can correctly answer these ten questions about one of the greatest French comedies of recent decades?

The character of Asterix was born from the imagination of screenwriter René Goscinny and designer Albert Uderzo, one evening in 1959 in Bobigny in a few hours. He first appears in the weekly comic magazine Pilotand following the success, the famous hero will be entitled to his own comic strip, the first part of which Asterix the gallicwas released two years later in 1962. To date, the series has no less than 37 albums, which have given rise to numerous film adaptations.

After seven animated feature films released between 1967 and 1994, the first live action film Asterix and Obelix against Caesar by Claude Zidi was released in 1999 with Christian Clavier and Gérard Depardieu in the cast to play the two heroes. Three other films will follow, including Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, which remains the series’ biggest box office success to this day, and the ultimate reference for comic book fans.

Directed by Alain Chabat, the film released in 2002, like any great popular success, marked its era with several memorable scenes and dialogues. We thus think of the monologue that has become cult by Edouard Baer alias Otis explaining to us that there is no “good or bad situation”. We also remember the final confrontation between Jamel Debbouze and Gérard Darmon with this improbable rock-paper-scissors duel. Or even the spy Cartapus played by Chantal Lauby, with impressive concealment abilities.

The most famous of the Gauls will be entitled to a new adaptation, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire, the release of which has been postponed several times, is scheduled for February 1, 2023. Directed by Guillaume Canet, who will also play the main role , alongside his friend Gilles Lellouche.
