Three weeks before its theatrical release, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is already shaping up to be a success for the franchise. US box office estimates thus announce a record first weekend for Ethan Hunt’s new adventure, far ahead of previous opuses.
A hot new start for Tom Cruise
Mission: Impossible 7 can expect a cannon start from Wednesday July 12, 2023 in French and overseas theaters, with initial estimates suggesting 90 million dollars, including a weekend alone at more than 65 million.
A record figure for the franchise, which would place Dead Reckoning – Part 1 far ahead of the previous opus of 2018, Mission: Impossible – Fallout and its debut at $61 million. It would also be better than Rogue Nation (2015, 55 million), Ghost protocol (2011, 12 million), Mission: Impossible 2 (2000, 57 million), Mission: Impossible 3 ($47 million), and the very first movie released in 1996 ($45 million).
We will wait for the release of the work and the official figures to rejoice, but such an announced card would not be surprising. After the critical and public success of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, which generated nearly $1.5 billion at the global box office, Tom Cruise’s rating is at its highest. The star is more than ever synonymous with a great show and the public is faithful to the appointment.
The other reason for this possible start with a bang is the American release of the film, scheduled for Wednesday July 12 instead of the traditional Friday. This will give Mission: Impossible 7 a few precious extra days in theaters, before the weekend rush.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 recounts the hunt for a new weapon by Ethan Hunt and his team at the IMF. As dark forces surge from the past, Ethan embarks on a deadly race around the globe.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film sees the return of the usual cast: Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, but also Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is released on July 12, 2023 in cinemas.
