Mission Impossible 7: Did Tom Cruise really jump into the void on a motorcycle? Take a look behind the scenes of the shoot

Mission Impossible 7 has unveiled a stunning trailer, revealing a motorbike action scene that already promises to be the most epic of the film. Take a look behind the scenes of the shoot.

Tom Cruise has decided to strike a blow in this month of May 2022. After having enchanted the Croisette with the presentation of Top Gun Maverick, in theaters on May 25, the actor unveiled an impressive trailer for Mission Impossible 7 ( baptized Dead Reckoning).

These first images surprised everyone, the film being expected for July 12, 2023, more than a year from now.

At the end of the trailer, we can see the super-spy Ethan Hunt soaring into the void, perched on a motorcycle. This perilous stunt, which Tom Cruise performed himself, was the most perilous of his career.

Last August, the actor mentioned this sequence during the CinemaCon. “It’s by far the most dangerous thing I’ve ever attempted. We’ve been working on it for years”he confided about this feat.

The scene was shot in Norway. A ramp had been built above a cliff to allow Tom Cruise to rush with his bike to throw himself into the void, drop in free fall, then land with a parachute.

“I wanted to do it since I was little”, assured the actor. Behind the scenes of this spectacular stunt was filmed, as can be seen in this video posted on Twitter on the day of filming, September 7, 2020.

To achieve this monumental feat, Tom Cruise obviously trained like a madman. True to his habits of performing his own stunts, he notably parachuted 500 times.

The actor also jumped on a motorcycle from a course created for the occasion 30 times a day, which amounted to 13,000 times in all! “I had to get so good at it to have no chance of missing my shot”he recalled.

Tom Cruise then performed six motorcycle jumps from this Norwegian cliff, a stunt coordinator said on the day the crazy sequence was filmed.

“The only thing that scares me even more is what we have planned for Mission Impossible 8”outbid director Christopher McQuarrie, promising even crazier stunts in the second part of Dead Reckoning.

Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 will be released on July 12, 2023. The sequel will land a year later, on June 26, 2024. Anyway, the superstar never ceases to delight us by always going further in the stunts extremes, even going so far as to brave death.
