Mistaken for a wild boar, a mushroom picker saw death up close

The Sunday picking almost turned into a tragedy. This Sunday, October 9 in Vinsobres, in the Drôme, a 62-year-old man was seriously injured by a gunshot hunter to the abdomen. He was quickly airlifted to Marseille where he underwent surgery. In a press release, the parquet floor of Valence announced that his vital prognosis was no longer engaged.

To the investigators, the shooter assured “have confused the victim with a boar concealed by thickets”, said Valence prosecutor Laurent de Caigny. He clarified that “the police custody of the respondent (had) been extended today, in particular to verify the existence of hunting law violations”.

An investigation for unintentional injuries has been opened

As the prosecution said, the 55-year-old shooter is “an experienced hunter“, president of the local hunting society. According to our colleagues from France Bleu Drôme Ardèche, he was participating in a wild boar hunt at the time of the incident. He then had “no difficulty” to make themselves available to law enforcement. The samples taken did not reveal no trace of alcohol or narcotics. An investigation for involuntary injuries was opened and entrusted to the gendarmerie of Nyons.

Another hunting accident in the Rhône

Also this Sunday another hunting accident occurred in Pommiersin the Rhone. A 33-year-old mother and her two children, aged eight and ten, were injured. The Villefranche-sur-Saône prosecutor’s office mentioned “fairly minor injuries to the lower limbs”. The facts occurred during “of a small game hunt”. “We don’t yet know the exact circumstances, or whether it was a direct hit or a ricochet.”, said the prosecution, confirming information from Progress. The shooter, an octogenarian, was taken into custody until Sunday evening. The prosecution indicated that it “had not experienced a hunting accident until then”.
