Mitsubishi ASX: the engines are revealed!


Expected for September 2022, the future Mitsubishi ASX, an urban SUV from the Japanese manufacturer, will be based on the Renault Captur’s CFM-B platform. Its engines, now known, include hybrid and rechargeable hybrid engines.

Backed by a €23 billion electrification plan over the next five years, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is preparing for its future and adapting to the energy transition underway. It is in this logic that Mitsubishi announces the release in Europe of the new ASX.

This urban SUV will try to take some market share in an ultra-competitive sector. Thanks to the alliance, it will have interesting arguments since it will come directly from the Renault Captur’s CMF-B platform.

The Mitsubishi ASX will compete in the very competitive segment B. Benefiting from technological exchanges, it will be equipped with four engines including two 100% thermal, a “simple” hybrid and a rechargeable hybrid.

Two 100% internal combustion engines, one hybrid and one plug-in hybrid

At the start of the range, there will be the 1.0 l MI-T equipped with a turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with multipoint injection, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. The displayed power is 91 hp. Note that this version, although identical to the one found under the bonnet of certain Renaults and Dacias, will not be LPG compatible.

The 1.3 l DI-T will also take place under the hood of the ASX. This engine will release a turbocharged four-cylinder with direct injection, coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox, and will develop a power of 140 hp.

The HEV hybrid engine is particularly expected. This consists of a 1.6 l petrol engine combined with two electric motors and a 1.3 kWh battery. Everything is coupled to a multimode automatic gearbox, the power developed reaching 145 hp. This is the same traction chain as that tested on the Renault Capture E-Tech and the Renault Arkana. Two vehicles that we really appreciated.

Finally, responding to specific uses, there will also be the 1.6 l rechargeable hybrid (PHEV), made up of a 1.6 liter petrol engine associated with two electric motors and a 10.5 kW/h battery, with a multimode automatic gearbox with claws. The advertised total power is 160 hp. Unfortunately, given the capacity of the battery, the all-electric range will be very low.

Aficionados expecting a little more than a rebadged Captur, so you will have to wait until September to find out the final style of this SX urban SUV and above all… its price.
