Mitsubishi Colt: the return 11 years later

Mitsubishi tries little by little to reconquer the European market, in particular the French one, with the presentation of a new model which completes the range of the ASX. 11 years after removing it from its catalog, the three-diamond manufacturer presents the new Colt, a versatile city car, an almost perfect copy of the Clio. This strategy is not surprising since it is the result of partnerships within the Strategic Alliance between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Thus, if the ASX is a quasi-clone of the Renault Captur, the new Colt is based on the French city car. A few small details obviously make it possible to distinguish them, such as a light signature with LED daytime running lights and rear lines enhanced with the COLT monogram and Mitsubishi lettering. Five colours, four of which are metallic, will be available: Onyx Black, Sunrise Red, Royal Blue, Volcanic Gray and Arctic White.

Pricing has yet to be revealed, but four trim levels will be available with 7-10-inch digital instrumentation and Smartphone-link Display Audio ranging from 7-9.3 inches. Many driving assistance systems will be available, such as the 360° camera, the adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, the panoramic monitor, the automatic high/low beam switching, the monitoring system blind spot, the pre-collision speed reduction system, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, parking assistance, reverse traffic alert and recognition of traffic signs.

Under the hood, the Colt will be offered with exclusively petrol engines ranging from the 1.0 l MPI 3-cylinder 65 hp to the 1.0 l MPI Turbo of 90 hp, up to the 1.6 l hybrid 145 hp. This hybrid system combines a 36 kW electric motor, a high voltage alternator-starter and a 1.2 kWh battery whose function is to assist the internal combustion engine. It is able to recover braking energy and operate 80% of the time in all-electric mode in town.
