Mitsubishi will launch a new ASX SUV in Europe in 2023

Mitsubishi is preparing the European launch of a new B-segment SUV, the ASX. Coming from a Renault Captur platform, it will benefit from hybrid and rechargeable hybrid engines.

It is true that we hear little about Mitsubishi in France. However, its mythical Outlander and other Lancer models marked their era. As for the Outlander PHEV, with its 196,870 units sold since its launch in 2013, it is the best-selling plug-in hybrid in Europe. In addition, backed by a colossal electrification plan of 23 billion euros over the next five years, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is preparing the future with ambition.

It is in this logic that Mitsubishi announces the release in Europe of the new ASX. This small SUV will come up against the very competitive B segment. And thanks to the Alliance, it will have a strong argument since it will come directly from the CMF-B platform of the Renault Captur. Benefiting from technological exchanges, it is already announced in hybrid (HEV) and rechargeable hybrid (PHEV) versions.

If enthusiasts hope for more than a re-bodied Captur, the ASX will in any case be built on the same assembly line as the Renault, in Valladolid, Spain. Mitsubishi had unveiled images of these concept cars at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2022, but nothing like the teaser revealed today with this chrome grille divided into three segments. Since its restyling in 2019, the previous ASX was content with a single 150 hp engine, coupled to a CVT continuously variable box.

For the moment, no price has been communicated, but the launch is planned in Europe for 2023.
