Mark Zuckerberg presented this June 1 the Meta Quest 3, the brand’s new virtual reality headset supposed to push the metaverse a little further. A product with a quality / price ratio that looks good, since it will be marketed at 499 dollars across the Atlantic, but which marks a small increase compared to the Meta Quest 2.
Meta continues to push its vision of the metaverse supported by its Meta Quest virtual reality headsets. After a convincing Meta Quest 2 followed by a convincing Meta Quest Pro, it’s the return of the flagship model, which could sell well given its attractive price.
An improved Meta Quest 3 everywhere
Almost three years after the release of the second instance of the Meta Quest, the flagship headset of Meta (formerly Oculus) still wants to be accessible. In a video posted on Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg argues that it is the ” first consumer headset with mixed reality in high definition color ”, although in reality this is not the case.
On the design, one can only notice the three pills edging the white of the helmet on the front. It is assumed that they accommodate sensors and cameras allowing the helmet to locate itself in its environment, but also to film. What to equip the mixed reality helmet: by wearing the helmet, you can see through and thus see what is happening next to you.
The Meta Quest 3 is 40% thinner than its predecessor and the manufacturer claims improved comfort. We also have the right to better screens offering greater definition. The controllers also have the right to a refreshment with joysticks more ergonomic.
More than 500 titles compatible with this VR headset
All powered by the latest Qualcomm chips, which intend to offer twice the performance. Meta advertises this model as even more powerful than its Meta Quest Pro. In game, this should allow for more detail and fluidity.
Mark Zuckerberg also clarified that more than 500 video games and applications are compatible with the helmet. In fact, it’s quite simply the Quest 2 library that is available on this new version. Other content should be published soon and on the occasion of the release of the VR headset.
Mixed reality for less than 600 euros
What Meta is also trying to democratize mixed reality, namely the mixture between virtual reality and augmented reality. With this headset, Meta wants to democratize mixed reality. At the center of this project, the Meta Reality technology.
The manufacturer promises good color rendering and effective interaction between the physical world and the virtual world. What to project for example a game board on his table or place an easel in the middle of his living room.
The Meta Quest 2 will become even cheaper
The brand is taking the opportunity to once again reduce the price of its Meta Quest 2. In France, it will drop from June 4 to 349.99 euros for the 128 GB storage version and 399.99 euros for the 256 GB version. A priori, it should not disappear immediately from the catalog.
Today, it is sold respectively at 449.99 and 479.99 euros. This represents respective reductions of 25 and 20%. For the moment, we do not know if France will benefit from these reductions, but we can think that these promotions will be global. On top of that, Meta promises to release an update on the Quest 2 and Quest Pro: we should see a CPU performance increase of 26% on both headsets. Graphics performance should also be increased: by 19% for the Quest 2, by 11% for the Quest Pro.
Meta Quest 3 price and release date
The Meta Quest 3 will start at $499 in the United States this fall, in a version with 128 GB of storage. There will be a version with more storage, without knowing this second capacity. The helmet will a priori be sold in France since a page has been published on the Meta site to be kept informed of the release. A page that indicates a price in euros: 569.99 euros.
