Orange is the telecom operator that offers the best speeds on mobile Internet, according to the latest nPerf barometer. The historic player is quite clearly ahead of its competitors on most indicators.
After easily being crowned best 5G operator by Zone ADSL&Fibre a few days ago, Orange has just won another distinction, this time awarded by nPerf, this Friday January 26. The application which allows you to carry out mobile and fixed internet connection tests has compiled its results over the whole of 2023, to provide an assessment of various parameters. And whether in 5G or overall, it is Orange which offers the best speeds on mobile Internet. SFR, Free Mobile and Bouygues Telecom nevertheless have nothing to be ashamed of their performances.
Orange, leader in speeds, Bouygues Telecom signs the strongest growth in 2023
For the eighth consecutive year, Orange dominates the French mobile Internet. The operator has the particularity, quite logical in the end, of being both the most expensive and the one which offers the best overall performance (PG) to its customers.
On downstream speeds, i.e. downloading, Orange displays an average of 116.65 Mbit/s in 2023 (319.02 Mbit/s in 5G). On this single parameter, the company is ahead of SFR (96.50 Mbit/s in overall performance, 280.10 Mbit/s in 5G) and Free Mobile (96.06 Mbit/s in PG and 176.77 Mbit/s in 5G) . Bouygues Telecom is a little further away (81.35 Mbit/s in PG and 197.16 Mbit/s in 5G).
Regarding upstream speeds, i.e. sending, Orange (14.41 Mbit/s in overall performance and 33.22 Mbit/s in 5G) is ahead of Bouygues Telecom by a very short head. (14.47 Mbit/s in PG and 34.74 Mbit/s in 5G). The subsidiary of the construction giant signs the strongest annual growth of the four operators. It is now positioned as a real challenger for 2024.
SFR finished the year very strong
Note that Bouygues Telecom also stands out in two other areas: latency and streaming. On the first parameter, the operator (31.56 ms) is quite clearly ahead of its competitors, in the order of SFR (34.58 ms), Orange (35.81 ms) and Free (41.82 ms). In 5G, we take the same ones and start again, Bouygues dominates (26.16 ms) SFR (30.49 ms), Orange (33.57 ms) and Free (37.73 ms).
Bouygues Telecom also offers the best performance in YouTube video streaming, narrowly ahead of SFR. The operator in the red square, which was a little behind during the year, had a very convincing month of December in terms of flow rates. Free, on the other hand, remains weighed down by widely distributed 5G but based on 4G technology which affects its average speeds.
“ Competition between the four operators benefits consumers since the performance of their networks continues to improve », notes nPerf, in conclusion of its barometer. “ Although the overall ranking has changed little this year, it is worth noting the notable improvement in the performances of Bouygues Telecom and SFR which are reducing the gap with Orange. The deployment and adoption of 5G Standalone should shake things up in 2024.
