Mobile vehicle – The love of cheese unites the generations

Wolfgang Dankl makes cheese where others go on vacation. With his “Kas Mobil” the Pinzgauer is out and about on the local alpine pastures.

The principle is simple: Farmers with dairy cows can contact Wolfgang Dankl. He then comes to the farm with his “Pinzga Kas Mobil” and makes cheese on site from the raw milk that is available. “I’m often out on alpine pastures like this one,” says Dankl when the “Krone” visited him on a morning’s work at the Enzianhütte in Bramberg (Pinzgau). come to operate a mobile cheese factory? “That was a pretty daring step that actually came about because I was sick,” says Dankl, who has made a name for himself with his trailer of a special kind. “I was a cheesemaker at a dairy for 33 years, but then I injured my heel bone. That was very tedious, and I wasn’t able to work for a long time because of it,” he says. “A friend and I spent a long time thinking about how to construct something to make it work.” So he developed a prototype – the first of its kind. “I’ve been on the road with it since June 2017,” he says. Wolgang Dankl doesn’t need much from his customers on site – just a parking space, a connection for electricity and water and of course the raw milk . “Other than that, I have everything I need for making cheese.” Dankl produces his semi-hard cheese in eight varieties and refines it with pepper, chives or other herbs, depending on taste. The Pinzgauer also offers mountain cheese. After production, the cheese still needs time to mature. “If the farmer doesn’t have the opportunity to ripen the cheese properly himself, I store it at my place. That way I can create ideal conditions for the maturing process,” says the Pinzgauer.By the way: the passion for cheese probably runs in the family. His children and grandchildren were also present at the “Krone” local inspection. “My grandchildren are also very interested and are fully involved in making cheese,” says Wolfgang Dankl, visibly proud.
