Mobilize Duo and Bento: the heir to the Renault Twizy which wants to compete with the Citroën Ami

Mobilize, a subsidiary of the Renault group in charge of new mobility, finally presents the Duo and Bento as standard. These electric quadricycles were announced two years ago now for marketing supposed to begin in 2023, but having fallen behind schedule.

The Duo, the two-seater version of the model, takes the overall silhouette of the Twizy and its dimensions gain only a few centimeters with only 2.43 m in length and, above all, a width contained at 1.30 m. It’s 3 cm more than a Citroën Ami in length, but 9 cm less in width. Indeed, as on board a Twizy, the two seats of the Duo are installed in tandem, one behind the other, but the habitable width seems much better.

The elytron doors, available as an option on the Twizy, are carried over here, this time automatically associated with windows to close the passenger compartment. However, the look of the Duo does not seem much more modern than that of its ancestor released in 2011. Mobilize preferred to carefully choose the materials used, which are more responsible. THE “Duo and Bento incorporate more than 40% recycled materials and are 95% recyclable”indicates their manufacturer.

The dashboard is more like a block, which includes a small screen as instrumentation and a smartphone holder. The model has its own MyDuo mobile app, which will allow you to edit up to six virtual keys to access and start the vehicle.

The Bento is to the Duo what the Cargo version of the Twizy represented, a model sacrificing the second seat for the benefit of loading space. This last mile utility vehicle, however, differentiates itself more from the Duo with its rear part which brings its total length to 2.54 m. It offers a loading volume of 649 l, compared to 340 l for a Citroën Ami equipped with the My Cargo Kit, with a different layout which does not completely sacrifice passenger space.

Unlike the Ami, the Duo and Bento receive a front airbag and can be equipped with manual air conditioning as an option.

Autonomy twice that of a Citroën Ami

The basic version of the Duo is limited to 45 km/h, which makes it accessible to holders of the AM license (the former BSR) from the age of 14. A model capable of reaching 80 km/h is also available, as at the time of the Twizy, but requires a B license. This is the only version offered by the Bento utility vehicle.

Thanks to their 10.3 kWh useful capacity battery, the Duo and Bento announce respectively 161 km and 149 km of autonomy, while a Citroën Ami is limited to a range of 75 km. Charging can be done using a simple domestic socket for a charging time of a few hours, at night for example, or via an optional Type 2 socket in order to connect to a higher power wallbox. However, the maximum charging power is not communicated.

The Duo and Bento will be available to order from October 14, 2024, the opening date of the 2024 Paris Motor Show where they will be on display. They will be distributed in the Renault network at a price starting from €9,990 for the Duo limited to 45 km/h and €11,600 for its 80 km/h version. Bento prices are not specified. Note that there is a bonus of €900 on the purchase of a new electric quadricycle, in 2024 at least.

These prices are therefore higher than those of a Citroën Ami, sold from €7,990 excluding bonuses, but which does not offer a version going beyond 45 km/h. Rental offers will also play a big role in the attractiveness of these models.
