Model 3 and Model S affected
Tesla is recalling 475,000 vehicles
The electric car manufacturer Tesla has ordered almost half a million vehicles back to the workshops because of problems with the trunk. Because the problems increase the risk of an accident, the car manufacturer wants to check affected vehicles and carry out repairs.
The electric car maker Tesla is recalling hundreds of thousands of its Model 3 and Model S vehicles to the workshops because of problems with the trunk. Some Model 3s seem at risk of the reversing camera not working properly due to damage when opening and closing the trunk.
The automaker reported problems with all Model 3 vehicles from 2017 to 2020 and some Model S from 2014 to 2021 to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on December 21, according to a letter from the US Vehicle Safety Agency in which the recalls in the US are confirmed. On more than 355,000 Model 3 cars, the wiring harness of the reversing camera could be damaged when the trunk is opened and closed, so that the camera image is no longer displayed.
On nearly 120,000 Model S vehicles, the front trunk latch could be misaligned, causing the hood to open unexpectedly and, in some cases, obstructing the driver’s view. Both problems increase the risk of an accident. Tesla wants to check the affected vehicles and carry out the necessary repairs free of charge.
