Molotov increases its prices, but tries to convince with more channels

Bad luck for some Molotov subscribers: the TV viewing and recording service has just announced an increase in one of its prices.

Molotov price increase

If you don’t know yet Molotov, just remember that it is an application and a website that allows you to watch and record numerous TV channels from your PC or Mac, your Android smartphone or your iPhone, your game console, its Shield TV, its Smart TV, etc. Nevertheless, if Molotov’s success no longer needs to be demonstrated, it must be recognized that the application is increasingly attracting the wrath of its users.

By going to the Play Store to download the application for Android, we see that a large number of users criticize Molotov for having become paying for the slightest option. For example, it is impossible to access channels like TF1, M6 or TMC from the free version of the application. Same story when it comes to recording the numerous channels offered by the application: you definitely have to put your hand in your wallet. In its defense, it is difficult for such an application to maintain a completely free economic model.

But there are also a large number of users angry with the successive price increases that Molotov has experienced over the last two years. In August 2022, for example, the Molotov Plus plan increased from €3.99 to €5.99/month for new subscribers. An increase which was also applied to new subscribers a few months later. Anger is brewing among users. And it’s not about to stop, since the service has just announced a new price increase, which this time concerns the Molotov Extended bouquet.

The price of the Molotov Extended subscription is increasing, but is it for a good cause?

It is by email that users of the offer Molotov Extended learned the (bad) news. Their subscription thus increases from €9.99 to €10.99/month. Molotov thus justifies this price increase: it is about “offering an ever more satisfying experience and even more content”.

We thus learn that Molotov wishes to offer more channels to its subscribers. For now, Molotov Extended provides access to more than 130 channels, and offers recording and replay functions. But soon, four new channels will be added:

  • MTV 90’s,
  • MTV 80’s
  • MTV 00’s
  • Club MTV

For old subscribers, this increase will only take effect at the next renewal. On the other hand, it is already effective for new subscribers, or for those who would like to change their plan. Finally, note that the other offers (Molotov Plus at €5.89/month, Molotov Plus at €5.99/month, Molotov Grand Cinéma at €19.99/month, etc.) are not affected by this price increase.
