Momodora: Moonlit Farewell will conclude the saga on January 11, 2024

Initially little known beyond itch.io bargain hunters, the Momodora saga enjoyed much wider success with the release of Momodora: Reverie Under The Moonlight on Steam in 2016 and then on consoles thereafter. We even learn that this 4th part now has more than 800,000 sales. Enough to motivate Guilherme Melo Martins, better known in the development community under the pseudonym rdeinto produce a new opus serving as a conclusion to his metroidvania series.

This conclusion is therefore called Momodora: Moonlit Farewell and takes place five years after the events of Momodora III (Momodora: Reverie Under The Moonlight being a prequel). While the village of Koho is suddenly invaded by monsters who have responded to the call of a sinister bell sound, the local matriarch decides to send Momo, her most qualified priestess, to investigate this bell and above all flush out the person responsible for its use.

Momo keeps the peach

Whether on a technical level with increasingly finer pixel art over the episodes or in terms of game depth, Momodora: Moonlit Farewell presents itself as the culmination of 10 years of experience for the Brazilian designer and his team. “ I am well aware that many players are more familiar with the story of Kaho, which takes place in the distant past. I designed Moonlit Farewell so that it can be appreciated without necessarily having followed the stories of Momodora 1 to 3. Especially since the series has always given pride of place to action with stories kept to a minimum. So you won’t have anything in particular to catch up on, don’t worry! » commented rdein in passing.

Featuring an adjustable difficulty system, Momodora: Moonlit Farewell features frenetic gameplay with an emphasis on close-range combos and dodging attacks. The game is enriched with a system of “Sigils” to be obtained in shops or during exploration, and whose effects range from an attack bonus to invocations of magic swords through healing. “ Once you obtain a Sigil, you can activate or deactivate it whenever you want, allowing you to swap them along the way and customize your abilities to suit your playstyle ”, we are told. Everything will be good to take to overcome bosses often impressive for different reasons.
