Monica Lierhaus returns to television as a sports presenter. The broadcaster RTL has now announced its first concrete projects.

The former “Sportschau” presenter Monica Lierhaus (52) is celebrating her TV comeback. The broadcaster RTL has now announced in which formats and areas it will soon be seen. Accordingly, the assignment for the Cologne private broadcaster will start on Thursday, April 13th, with an interview about her comeback. Before the Europ-League broadcast of the Bayer Leverkusen game against Union Saint Gilloise, Lierhaus will report on her new job for the first time.

Special Olympics & other live sporting events

In June she then reports on the Special Olympics in Berlin. As stated in a press release from the broadcaster, Lierhaus accompanies the athletes for various news and magazine formats and takes over sports moderation on “RTL Aktuell”. In addition, she and her colleague Florian König (55) are to report on a DFB international match in June. In addition, further deployments at live sporting events are planned.

She becomes an inclusion consultant

The presenter should also be on duty for the show “Punkt 12” and accompany everyday heroes. RTL also reports: “In addition to the planned TV sports activities, Monica Lierhaus is permanently involved as an inclusion consultant for the company RTL Germany and is also involved in internal and external topics and formats as part of a “Diversity Week” on the subject of inclusion planned for the summer .”

“The connection between sport and inclusion is particularly important”

The moderator says: “I’m really looking forward to working with RTL – we realize exciting projects with extraordinary people. The combination of sport and inclusion is particularly important. The Special Olympics in Berlin are a great event and it’s a nice one It’s my job to bring the athletes closer to people and to report on their achievements. And of course I’m particularly looking forward to going on trips about football and the national team again.”

In 2009, the presenter was diagnosed with an aneurysm while preparing for eye surgery. There were complications during the removal, and Lierhaus had to be placed in an artificial coma for four months. In rehab, she had to learn to swallow, eat, and move again. In 2019 she had announced her TV-off, in March RTL announced the comeback of Lierhaus.
