In a press release, the High Authority for Health recommended the vaccination of people at risk against monkeypox. Men who have sex with other men, but also transsexuals and prostitutes are particularly concerned.

The High Authority for Health calls for action against the spread of monkeypox. In a press release published this Friday, she invites all people at risk to be vaccinated against this disease. This concerns “men who have sex with men and trans people who have multiple partners, people in a situation of prostitution, professionals working in places of sexual consumption”.

The HAS adds that this vaccination can be considered “on a case-by-case basis for professionals who have to take care of sick people”. It is a preventive vaccination that responds to “difficulties in tracing the contacts of infected people”. As of July 5, the health authorities have detected 577 cases of “monkeypox”, including 387 in Ile-de-France. “The cases remain, at this stage, not very serious, the disease evolving favorably in a few weeks”, can we read in the press release.

Until then, the High Authority for Health recommended vaccinating adults, including health professionals, who had risky contact with a patient. It had been seized at the end of last week by the Ministry of Health to determine to which populations to extend vaccination to limit the risk of contamination for people at risk of exposure to the virus.

LGBTQI + associations, certain health professionals, and, more recently, left-wing parties, had asked the ministry about an extension to men who have sex with other men.
