Monks faced with a problem – monastery hotel in Maria Luggau is now history

Lesachtal: After the plans for a monastery hotel in Maria Luggau failed due to a lack of funding, the monks of the Servite Order are facing a new challenge. The aging roof is leaking and urgently needs to be replaced; the church will fund the renovation.

“The project failed because of the question of liability for the financing,” explains Johann Windbichler, Mayor of the Lesachtal: “Nobody wanted – and this is perfectly understandable – to be liable with their private assets for the 8.5 million euro building.” Also a cheaper alternative was not feasible.

Monks face a big problem
So the ambitious project of a monastery hotel with 150 beds had to be buried. The associated renovation of the monastery is also history. But the monks in the monastery are facing another big problem – the roof is leaking.

The expert believes that the renovation will devour a lot of money: “Due to the large area, we will be moving in the millions here.” With this, the friars can rely on the help of the churches.
