More bankruptcies in 2022 – bankruptcies: no need to worry in the country

In Vorarlberg, the number of company bankruptcies increased more in 2022 than in the rest of Austria. Don’t panic, says the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce.

“Vorarlberg’s companies are very well positioned, despite enormous challenges,” Wilfried Hopfner, President of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce, looks to the new year with optimism. He does not let the positive mood be clouded by the recently published insolvency statistics for 2022. Economy nevertheless stable There, the state takes first place in the increase in company bankruptcies with 127.5 percent. Measured in absolute numbers – 116 insolvencies – the Vorarlberg economy is still more stable than in any other federal state. For Hopfner, the situation is therefore far from worrying. “I don’t see any special features in Vorarlberg. There is also no industry cluster,” says the Chamber of Commerce President, attributing the increase in insolvencies primarily to the expiry of the Corona aid measures. “It has been clear for a long time that companies that were able to survive primarily thanks to state support services will eventually run into problems,” says Hopfner . He currently sees the biggest bottlenecks in energy and manpower. “Even if the increase hurts, compared to Austria, the energy prices in Vorarlberg are very good.”
