Following yesterday’s announcement of the discontinuation of “Plus belle la vie”, Allociné contacted Pauline Rocafull, screenwriter on the series, to get her opinion on this rumor which has panicked the web.
Le Figaro yesterday announced in its columns the cessation of Plus belle la vie, the daily soap opera of France 3 launched in 2004, after more than 18 seasons.
While this news was a real shock for all fans of the series, France Television has since clarified in Le Parisien that no cancellation has yet been recorded but that “the end of Plus belle la vie, whose audiences are down, is a possibility. But it is not the only one”.
With the fate of the series still hanging in the balance, Pauline Rocafull, screenwriter on Plus belle la vie, tries to keep hope alive. Contacted by us, she made a point of specifying that this kind of rumors often comes out during the contract negotiation period (the contract of France Télévisions with Newen, the production company of the soap opera indeed expires on December 31, 2022).
“So we weren’t aware of anything. And this is rather good news because it means that it is far from being done.“For the moment, the writers have not had editorial instructions suggesting the end of the series.
“Plus belle la vie has revealed many talents in the audiovisual sector”. she added. “It’s a gateway to the sector for new arrivals. It would be a shame if this door closed. That’s why I believe it won’t happen.” She even urged fans on Twitter to raise their voices to save the show.
Pauline Rocafull was not the only one to react to this announcement, former actors of Plus belle la vie, in particular Fabienne Carat (Samia), Avy Marciano (Sacha) and Sara Mortensen (Coralie) also find it difficult to believe that this is the end.
“Plus belle la vie is part of French heritage, it’s part of the history of television”, thus explained the interpreter of Samia on the plateau of Touche not at my post. Same story with Avy Marciano, who left Plus belle la vie last December, and Sarah Mortensen, who are both surprised by the channel’s decision.
For the moment, the current actors of Plus belle la vie have been ordered not to communicate on the rumor. It now remains to be seen what will be the final decision of France Télévisions, which is seeing the audiences for the soap opera drop from year to year. Will they find a way to save her, or will they stop the costs to start a new project?
