More money for climate measures – Juso announces new initiative for an inheritance tax – News

  • The Young Socialists make a nine attempt to tax inheritances.
  • According to its President Ronja Jansen, the young party wants to launch a corresponding initiative at its delegates’ meeting on Sunday.
  • Inheritances that exceed the amount of 50 million francs should be taxed at 50 percent, according to Jansen.

The 27-year-old party leader said this in an interview with the daily newspaper “Blick”. Only about 2,000 super-rich people would be affected by the tax. It is this small minority that profits massively from the exploitation of planet earth.

Additional income from taxes for the climate

The additional income from the new inheritance tax would have to be used to fight climate change. The initiative text is to be adopted on Sunday at the delegates’ meeting of the Jusos in Bern.

The initiative does not affect SMEs and no siblings who inherit a house, assured Jansen, who is stepping down as president of the young SP after three years. Almost 100 billion francs would be inherited every year by people who would not have done anything for the money.

Last inheritance initiative massively rejected

“We actually live in a new aristocratic society,” said the Juso President. Seven years ago, an initiative to introduce a national inheritance tax was clearly rejected by the Swiss people with around 71 percent.

All cantons rejected the tax. With the initiative “Tax inheritances of millions for our AHV”, the EVP, SP, Greens and the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions had demanded a national inheritance and gift tax of 20 percent.
