After the Russian offensive in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv, the Ukrainian army is carrying out counterattacks, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The troops’ main task at the moment is to “disrupt Russian attack plans,” Zelensky said in his evening video speech. The troops must now “give the initiative back to Ukraine,” Zelensky had previously said.
He also once again called for further support from Western allies. It is “important that our partners support our soldiers and Ukrainian resilience with timely deliveries – really timely deliveries.”
Zelensky further said that the aid package that really helps Ukraine is “the weapons that will be delivered to Ukraine, not the announced ones.” He added: “Every air defense system, every missile defense system literally saves lives.”
According to Ukrainian information, on Friday the Russian army launched a massive ground offensive in the Kharkiv region and advanced around one kilometer into Ukrainian territory. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the troops captured the towns of Borisivka, Ohirtseve, Pletenivka, Pylna and Striletscha, which are located near the border with Russia.
