(dpa) More than 30 people suffered carbon monoxide poisoning on Sunday night in Prague. The rescue workers said on Twitter that they had examined a total of 32 people, including several children. 27 injured were distributed to various hospitals in the city, 5 people were treated on site. Accordingly, nobody was in mortal danger.
According to the police, the cause of the carbon monoxide leak in a residential building in the Prague-Modrany district was a defective boiler in a gas heating system. The police therefore began an investigation on Sunday for negligent endangerment of the general public. As a police spokesman for the CTK news agency announced, the gas boiler apparently lacked a mandatory check. Those responsible could face up to two years in prison.
